Into the Reykjavik Highlands with Collin Daulong
Collin Daulong's KC&E Adventures mountain biking escapade in Reykjavik's highlands was far from the well-trodden trails of a typical adventure. There were no manicured paths courtesy of a local trail association—just the raw, untamed landscape shaped by necessity and time, with sheep as the inadvertent trailblazers.
“What drives us is this itch to dig up those one-of-a-kind, local experiences that get you right into the heart of a country and its culture.”
Days on the bike unfolded in an almost psychedelic manner. The riders navigated through rough mountain roads and single tracks, flanked by geothermal vents, a clash of vibrant hues, stretches of hardened lava, and the imposing silhouette of Mt. Hekla against the skyline. Massive glaciers lurked in the distance, a constant reminder of nature's grandeur.
Lunch breaks were makeshift affairs on warm geothermal spots, a stark contrast to the harsh surroundings. Evenings brought relief in the form of cold beers and soaks in geothermal pools—a temporary reprieve from the relentless challenges of the day.
“The experience was a feast for all five senses.”
In the end, Iceland’s highlands etched themselves deep into the hearts of the riders. The remoteness allowed for a full immersion into the natural wonders and beauty that define this unique destination. Without exception, the captivating untapped landscapes made Iceland a place that calls them back, year after year.
